THE WILD BIRD
Written by: Mohamed Nasir(bapak gua)
There was a crippled bird on the road and I
Passed it by went fast then I wonder why
I spurred the chance to do a kind deed
To help someone or something in need
So I turned my car as quickly as I could
And found it one leg injured its no good
It couldn’t fly and I took it in my palm
I guessed it knew I was saving it from harm
Whilst nestled calmly but its eyes betrayed
Weary of what I would do to it when I laid
The poor bird at my side as I brought it back
Though I don’t know why but what the heck
A frail body crouched by the corner of a cage it
Was in that was once belonged to my dead rabbit
And I knew it wanted to be in the wild someday
I’ll set it free as it longed to be to fly far away
To search tiny insects and fish by the marshland
With lean legs to wade to its heart content and
So it should be but until then here it’ll remain
Forced to feed on worms till its leg could regain
The strength to stand to fly and when the day came
Fought with all its might for it could never be tamed
And the moment I saw it flew off into the morning sky
I was glad I came back to help and not just passed it by
